bullet point Equipment bullet point For disabled people and their carers bullet point

bullet point Choosing the right piece of equipment can be expensive, time consuming and very hard work.

Without the right information on what to look for and what to ask you can also end up with something that isn't right for your needs.

Here at Preston Disc we have some very useful telephone numbers that can help you make a better informed judgement about the piece of equipment you want.

bullet point However, we always encourage people to contact the Disabled Living Foundation Helpline first. They are a registered charity who can provide fact sheets, advice and information on any item of equipment. This means that when you go shopping for your item of equipment you know what questions to ask to ensure that what you buy is right for you! Telephone their helpline on 0845 1309177, or visit their website at www.dlf.org.uk

bullet point If you have not already done so, you may want to contact your local Social Services office and ask for an 'assessment of your needs' - it may be that whatever you do need can be provided by social services, although if the cost goes over a certain amount you may be asked to make a contribution to the cost.

To contact social services ring - 01772 263689 if you live in Preston, 01257 516000 if you live in Chorley OR 01772 904600 if you live in the Leyland area.

bullet point If it is a small item you are looking to buy there are numerous places to go. The British Red Cross stock a good range of items and also produce a catalogue. They can be contacted on 01772 709555 or visit their website on www.redcross.org.uk
